I have been hooked on these ever since. The sound you can get out of a bass with these picks is amazing, very bright and crisp!The Medium thickness Herco picks are my favorite, but they ARE flexible enough that you lose a bit of volume when really trying to thrash some strings. The Extra Heavy picks are a bit uncomfortable over the top of the thumb, but are bearable. I've played many shows and recorded multiple times with the Medium, Heavy, and Extra Heavy Herco picks. I can't play a show without them anymore! I've tried other brands of thumb picks (Dunlop) but these are simply the best! These CAN and WILL break over time. I broke three Medium picks in one show, but I had been practicing and playing with them for three weeks. They're plenty durable, but will break eventually. BUY THESE PICKS, they're GREAT! I made an amazing discovery as I recovered from surgery-- that the thumbpick not only reduced the stress on my right hand significantly, but ALSO ALLOWS ME TO ALTERNATE FREELY BETWEEN FINGERPICKING AND STRUMMING, without having to pick up or put down a pick. I have used them ever since for everything, except when I know I will be only strumming a song energetically and like the feel of a flatpick better for that, but I use the thumbpick 90% of the time. For me, it opened up my music and allowed me to play the way I wanted to play!The main reason it reduces stress on the right hand while fingerpicking is that the wrist stays closer to the strings, rather than adopt a "claw" position so the thumbnail can be used. I couldn't find the couple of thumb picks that have been hanging around in my guitar pick cigar box for about 20 years, so I picked up a few of these from a local store in light, medium & heavy. As others have mentioned, with thumb picks the main issue seems to be that the fit can either be too loose or way too tight. With these Hercos the heavy is too tight, the medium is ok and the light is a bit too loose. They need to standardize the thickness of the loop so that they all fit the same.
